SURVEY: IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON THE BUSINESS (2021)

The Secretariat of the Investment Council launched its annual survey, which for the second year in a row was dedicated to the impact of Covid-19 on business. The survey was sent by e-mail to 10,000 businesses and it was concluded in June with 427 responses. Already a consolidated initiative of the Secretariat, the survey focused on assessing the challenges and real effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the business and its activity, mainly assessing economic growth, labour force and innovation. The findings of this questionnaire will be discussed in one of the upcoming meetings of the Investment Council, and they will be published afterwards on our website.

 

HOW THE PRIVATE SECTOR CAN ACCELERATE THE DIGITALIZATION OF THE ECONOMY—DISCUSSION WITH THE BUSINESS

RisiAlbania in collaboration with the Secretariat of Albania Investment Council hosted a virtual roundtable to explore and discuss with the private sector, the arising challenges and opportunities of doing business in a new digital era (post-Covid-19)—characterized by rapid technological change. During discussions, Albanian companies acknowledged that digitalization has brought huge benefits in terms of making it easier to approach international clients. To keep up with the game, the companies need to become more professional and provide better training and better conditions for their employees, improve their services and continuously disrupt themselves with new technologies. READ MORE >

 

INTERNATIONAL ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF EBRD-SUPPORTED INVESTMENT COUNCILS “BUILDING A RESILIENT AND SUSTAINABLE FUTURE” 

2-3 June 2021 

This year’s Investment Council Conference focused on the role that the ICs play in building stronger, more resilient futures for the EBRD’s countries of operation and support their transition to greener, more inclusive and digital economies. This also reflects the EBRD’s strategic priorities for the next few years.

Currently, EBRD supports 11 Investment Councils (ICs) across Eastern Europe and Caucasus, Western Balkans, Central Asia and Southern and Eastern Mediterranean. In Albania, the IC is funded with support from the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs.

 

INVESTMENT COUNCIL DISCUSSES DRAFT BUSINESS AND INVESTMENTS DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY 2021-2027 

21 June 2021

Chaired by the Minister of Finance and Economy, Ms Anila Denaj, the Investment Council (IC) held a plenary meeting to discuss the draft Business and Investments Development Strategy (BIDS) for 2021-2027. Minister Denaj stated in her speech that the strategy’s two ultimate objectives are recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic, and regional integration and collaboration. Among others, IC members and partners suggested more transparency on the public infrastructure investment plans and on the incentivized sectors for mitigating the cost of new investment, increased budget for the implementation of the strategy, increased attention to the reduction of education inequality among districts to leverage unused labour force throughout the country, etc.   READ MORE >

 

TECHNICAL CONSULTATION ON THE DRAFT LAW “ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF MICRO, SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES”

The Secretariat of the Investment Council, in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance and Economy, organized a technical consultation on the draft law “On the Development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.” The consultation was held following the Investment Council’s recent meeting “On the Consultation of the New Draft Strategy for Business and Investments Promotion 2021-2027”, and in accordance with the Investment Council’s established mission and tradition of holding public consultations on draft laws related to the business climate at the technical level.  READ MORE >
