Discussion meeting on investment promotion and sources of economic growth
- September 25, 2019
“Investment Promotion and Priority Sectors” is the next agenda item to be discussed by the Investment Council (IC) in early October. Secretariat’s analysis, being prepared for this meeting, will aim to encourage the debate on sustainable growth options for investments and potential resources. The analysis will focus on the latest dynamics of the country’s economic growth as well as real perceptions of the private sector. The latest EBRD, WB, IMF, EU reports and studies have been taken into consideration, while statistical data have been consulted with the Bank of Albania and INSTAT. During September, the Secretariat held individual meetings with around 40 stakeholders, out of which 17 are CEOs of companies from various profiles (telecom, industry, agro-processing, etc.) in Tirana, Durrës, Shkodra and Korça.
On Tuesday (24 September 2019), the Secretariat discussed preliminary findings and recommendations in a focus group meeting with representatives of associations and chambers of commerce and industry. In the focus of the discussions were:
i) Vision on priority sectors where Albania can have a competitive advantage;
ii) Challenges of the future, quality of the workforce, lack of data/analysis/concrete impact of national strategies and action plans;
iii) Suggestions on priority interventions that can drive investment and diversify sources of economic growth.
During the meeting, the Secretariat informed the participants that it is working on setting up a Working Group “On Investments,” which is expected to address more specific issues in this area.
The subject of investment promotion is part of the 2019 IC Agenda.
