New Publication on Data and Impact of Foreign Enterprises in the Albanian Economy

In December 2017, the Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) in collaboration with the Bank of Albania, published for the first time the Report “Foreign Enterprises in Albania 2014-2016,” with data on foreign enterprises, and their impact in the Albanian economy.

Some of the main findings of the report show that in 2016, FDI flow has increased by 5.9% from 2015. As regards FDI flow, the foreign and joint enterprises have employed 16 % of the total employment and have contributed with 22.7 % in the total turnover. In 2016, the number of foreign and joint enterprises operating in Albania was 5,637.

As relates to their origin, the enterprises from European Community countries covered approximately 70% of the total foreign and joint enterprises, from the Western Balkans origin represent 10.9% while the other countries covered 19.1%. of total foreign and joint enterprises.

Data from UNCTAD (World Investment Report, June 2017), confirm that Albania ranks second in the region in terms of Foreign Direct Investments, as they decreased in Montenegro and Serbia.
